Editorial policy
How entries are written, checked, approved, updated and corrected on How to Buy Jewelry.
Writing
Each entry is written by a named editor in a reference-book voice: definitions before opinions, specific nouns, no hype. Entries do not use em dashes, filler phrases or unsupported superlatives.
Checking
Before publication every entry is checked against our verified data sets. Grading statements are checked against the published GIA and IGI references. Retailer facts come only from the Policy Register. Dollar figures come only from the Diamond Price Index, the Vintage vs New Cost Guide and the verified price ranges behind them. An entry that fails any check is sent back to the editor.
Approval
The editorial desk approves every entry before it goes live and records the “last verified” date shown on the page.
Updating
Entries are re-checked at least every 90 days. When a retailer changes a policy, the Policy Register is updated first and the entries that cite it follow.
Corrections
Errors are corrected on the page and logged on the corrections page with the date and what changed.
Retailer submissions
Stores can submit their policies and product feed through the for jewelers page. Submissions are reviewed by the editorial desk. Listings that appear on the site are verified by our editors.
