Now that I have read your interesting information on the jewelry possibilities on Etsy, I’d like to check it out. Are the vintage jewelers of today’s market selling real vintage antigue or replica jewelry? Is there any real way to tell an antigue from a replica? If so, how I can I be sure that it actually real vintage jewelry? Also is there any real value to true vintage jewelry in today’s market?
Hi Ed, both exist, there are jewelers selling real vintage jewelry, and there are jewelers selling replicas. It takes a lot of knowledge and research to learn how to tell a replica from jewelry that is truly vintage, one way is to know what stamps are used (though some jewelry is not stamped), or about vintage stone cuts and settings. An honest seller will disclose if a piece is truly vintage or not.
The best way for a regular person to know they are buying true vintage jewelry is to shop at a reputable online dealer (such as the ones in our list). Their jewelry will be appraised by certified gemologists who can verify the age of the jewelry and the quality of the stones and metals used.
To answer your last question, there is most certainly real value to true vintage jewelry in today’s market. Vintage jewelry is collectible, because it is rarer and because the pieces are often one-of-a-kind. The level of quality and craftsmanship is hard to beat today. Vintage jewelry that is not costume jewelry will hold value because of the precious metals and gems used in the piece, and it will only get more valuable as time goes on and pieces are lost, or wear out.

Chanel, Mikimoto, and Tiffany and Co. all made exceptional pearl jewelry, but it is costly. For a more affordable option that is still historically significant, costume jewelry designers made fake pearl jewelry that is beautiful and high-quality. These would include Coro, Ciner, or Sarah Coventry.
Oh my goodness, I just thought of the perfect designers. Nina Ricci (browse Etsy) or Christian Dior (browse Etsy). Both made lots of pearl designs, and their vintage jewelry is not too expensive, but not cheap either. And both will retain their value as they are highly collectible.
